When we made it to the cabin, we were all over each other and went straight to the bedroom. I loved being with Britney. The way she touched me, the way she looked while we were making love. In the short time we'd been together, we were both learning a lot about ourselves sexually, and I hoped we would continue to explore.
I looked at her as she stared into my eyes. She put her head on my chest, and I sighed loudly.
âWe still need to talk about earlier,â she reminded.
I kissed her forehead and looked at the mahogany wall. âI know.â
âWe have to go back so you can apologize to your mom.â
âI know, and we will. Right now, I just want to lay here with you and not worry about anything.â
âWe can do that,â she agreed, snuggling even closer to me.
âI also need to apologize to you. I know I said Iâm trying hard to control my anger, but what happened really caught me off guard.â
âThatâs to be expected. But Jay, your mom has been alone for a long time. Donât you think she deserve some sort of happiness?â
âI know, but with my coach? The entire situation is just awkward.â
âIâm sure it is, but when I saw your mom at the arena, she really was a different person. She was blushing and couldnât stop smiling. I could tell sheâs in love or just plain happy. It made me think about the way you make me feel.â
âIs that why you asked if my mom was dating anyone?â
âYeah; I noticed her looking at Coach during the team warm-ups. I kind of figured something was going on.â
I slid my hand down her back, caressing her skin. She felt so good pressed against me.
âIâm upset about the fact that they lied, but I know Iâll get over it eventually. It's just that seeing my mom with someone else besides my dad is really getting to me.â
âBabe, I donât think your dad would want your mom going through life not loving again. He would want her to move on.â
âBut with his friend?â
âEven with his friend. Iâm sure the two didnât expect this to happen, but at least they were there for each other to lean on. Unless youâve been in their shoes, you donât know what they have experienced.â
âI think I know a little.â
âYou may, but everyone grieves in their own way. You grieved by lashing out at everyone. Even though it wasnât healthy, you thought it helped you cope in your own way.â
âYouâre referring to what happened with Nathan?â
âYeah. When I heard what happened, I knew a part of why you did it was because of your dad.â
I continued staring at the wall, visualizing that night in my head. If I had to go back, I would probably change things. But now, I had to forgive myself for it and move forward.
âMajority of it was because of what he did to Ri, but another part was because of his dad. Even though the guy who killed my dad was arrested and went to jail, he was let out for good behavior.
